Just Mustard come from Dundalk, County Louth in Ireland. They create wonderfully surreal landscapes of sound and their debut album ‘Wednesday’ was described by the Irish Times as screeches of metallic guitars and disembodied vocals but it is a remarkable album and gave it a 5-star review. Some people have labelled the band as shoegaze and there are elements of that sound but the comparison doesn’t do them justice at all and it’s far too narrow a description for their wondrous, inventive music. The band can accept it but only in the way that My Bloody Valentine have been lazily lumped in with that genre. What the band do have is a haunting almost gothic undertone to their music which is just spellbinding.
Over the top of it is a huge cathedral of sonic noise which makes bewitching and beguiling at the same time and no wonder they are so hotly tipped. They have played with several bands but thoroughly enjoyed touring with Fontaines DC which was a really good experience! The bands were very different in terms of sound but both bands got on famously and proclaimed the Fontaines were just great people. Delighted to have them at the Futurama and catch them if you can as they are definitely one to watch.
