Imperial Wax comprise the last and longest serving members of the Fall, one of this country’s greatest ever bands. The Fall and Mark E Smith were unique! When Mark died in 2018 that was it, the full stop to a remarkable band and career that had gone on for more than 40 years. This country had lost one of its greatest wordsmiths in MES, a true one off acerbic, scabrous, funny and intelligent but also difficult in equal measures. However, when Mark threw off his mortal coil what was left was a band that was remarkably tight and accomplished and who after a period of mourning decided to carry on as Imperial Wax with guitarist Sam Curran on vocals.
The Imperial Wax was the only doff of the cap to their past as the name comes from the 2008 Fall album ‘Imperial Wax Solvent’ which was the first album they all came together on. This is definitely their own sound forging 60’s garage with krautrock, rockabilly & post punk! They describe themselves as “Noise rockers and garage brawlers unafraid of a psych work out and a rockabilly dust up.” Saturdays alright for fighting.
The Fall played the first Futurama in 1979 at the Queens Hall in Leeds and the lesser known Futurama 6 in 1989 with the likes of James, Cud, New Fast Automatic Daffodils and Primal Scream.
