God save the Queen, a fascist regime. But God save Chubby too, the new King of British Punk. Chubby and The Gang have been described by The Guardian as the UK’s most vital new band!
They’d been on a wild ride before the pandemic shut everything down. Chubby and the Gang had already completed a headline US tour where the likes of Rolling Stone, Paste and Pitchfork sang their praises of this new British band. They have just signed to Partisan Records (Home of Idles, Fontaines DC & Laura Marling) so they are already in great company. The album ‘Speed Kills’ races through various styles of punk rock from anarchic 1977 to 100mph hardcore. Coming together from various DIY punk outfits they are the sound of suburbia, the working class and disillusioned. Lead singer Chubby Charles says “My parents were punks but they told me it’s far worse now…the UK and the world is up shit’s creek.” Chubby and the Gang music have been likened to a debauched pub crawl through the seedy side of London. On the jukebox with the Ramones, Motorhead and the Damned. We’ll meet you at the bar!
